Rubies of India

Day 51 - December 2, 2021

The morning was slow but after lunch we did crafts with the kids. Two of the older girls were home from school so they helped make the example crafts to show the other kids. Both girls said they were sick with a fever and cough but neither were warm to the touch nor did they cough at any time while we spent the day together. I'm not sure what was going on with that. We took a break after a while for lunch and I walked with the girls to get their plates from their room. Only one of the girls got her plate so I asked the other one where hers was. She said that Auntie took her plate and the other girl said she was being taught a lesson. Sure enough, only one girl ate lunch. I didn't eat lunch either and when I asked Auntie later on for something to be ordered she said okay but nothing was brought. I wasn't able to eat until I went back to the house later in the evening.

When the kids returned to the home we started on the Christmas crafts. We were giggling, being silly, and having a good time. We bought enough craft supplies for each kid to be able to make multiple stars and they were taking full advantage of that! It was so much fun. But then Auntie walked into the room. I have never seen children go from full smiles to stone cold sober so quickly in my entire life. The room went from being a noisy craft party to dead silent in a second. Heads went down, busy fingers stilled, and the whole mood changed. I can not make this up. Something is not right. Kids should definitely respect adults but they should never have fear on their faces when an adult walks into a room. I quietly observed the time she was in the room and then felt the whole room take a breath a few moments after she walked out. We finished our craft but the energy wasn't the same after her visit.

Needless to say, today was just bizarre.
