A Sunday to Savor

Day 47 - November 28, 2021

This morning I took a long bucket bath and listened to a sermon by David Platt about our purpose in life. Then I spent the morning studying scripture with a local friend. I read several Psalms and he read some verses in 1 Corinthians before we prayed for each other. It was a moment that I took time to savor. We also talked about YHWH, the name of God that is literally a breath. God has given us a way to cry out to Him that takes an effortless breath. When we feel like we are struggling, unseen, or unwanted we can breath deep and speak the name YHWH and He brings overwhelming peace, comfort, and joy to our lives. Ah! God is so specific in the way He does things. I love it.

This afternoon I went to the kids home and finally met the last group of guys. Most of the boys were able to have their headshots taken, which took a while but they did a great job! I even did a mini portrait session for one of their House Parents and it was fun to hear them cheer him on. Once picture time was over we started playing volleyball and played for an hour or so. They gave me tea at some point and I took a sip before it cooled down. I'm getting a new tongue installed tomorrow because mine is permanently burned.

In the evening I went to English church, Thank the Lord! The pastor preached on Acknowledging the Will of God but he basically preached 3 sermons in one so it took him a while. I was able to sit with Akka and a dear "brother" for the service. My "brother" told me a little bit about what the church was like when he was growing up. I took some notes during the sermon and then we sang one last song before heading back to the house.

Acknowledge the Will of God

  • The children of Israel were blessed but they didn’t know they were blessed.
  • God was for them even in their struggles.
  • The land of Canaan wasn’t prepared for Moses. It was prepared for Israel. Moses was just the tool that God used to bring about the promise of God. Moses was not in slavery. He was free. God gave him the tools and skills to be a leader but not to receive the promise of Israel.
  • Moses felt unqualified for his God given task.
  • The Israelites were in the midst of persecution and when God gave them freedom the devil made them believe that their past was comfortable.
  • When Moses spoke the people doubted initially but then they became excited.
  • Moses heard the voice of God.
  • Exodus 14:13-14
  • “Stand firm. The Lord will bring you deliverance today.”
  • “The LORD will fight for you. You need only to be still.”
  • There was nothing to do but believe in God. On their journey they faced many challenges but God was guiding them.
  • After experiencing the miracle of the red sea their confidence and joy began to diminish.
  • Exodus 14:17
  • “They grumbled against Moses.
  • Everytime the Israelites opened their mouths they complained.
  • Even though they had seen the hand of God it did NOTHING in their lives. How is that possible??
  • Why are you grumbling? Because you have not allowed your nature to be changed.
  • As the child of God what kind of nature and attitude should I have?
  • When we trust in God we know that He has done and will do great thIngs.
  • When God gives blessings and God gives something good, people start talking bad.
  • “If someone throws a stone at you. Let it fall at your feet. Let it cause you to rise up and stand taller.”
  • Whoever says no to you, God will say the same to them. You may be refused a house here but you have a mansion for eternity.
