The Reception-A Whole Flex
Day 40 - November 21, 2021
Today is the last event for Rachel & Pradeep’s wedding. I woke up early to shower and get ready for the day. By 9 AM I was completely ready for the day. I had breakfast which was lentil soup and scrambled eggs. Then I sat in my room until we left the house around 5 PM. I called friends, talked to my mom, and edited some photos from the previous wedding events. I also worked on my language learning and listened to a sermon from Vous Church back in the states. Rich spoke on a section of Habakkuk today and I will be honest…I have not read that book in a long time. The minor prophets have realistically short books though so maybe that will be my next endeavour when I have time to kill.
We arrived late the the reception this evening. It was supposed to begin at 6 PM and we arrived at 7 PM. Apparently, it had just started but the room was completely full. This reception is MASSIVE. There are probably close to 1500 people here. The hall has three chandeliers and floral arrangement ring around the stage in white and yellow flowers. There are red and gold chair covers on all the chairs, couches up front, and a white and gold couch on stage for the bride and groom.
In addition there is an outside area where the guests will eat after the program has concluded. Speaking of the program, it began with the whole wedding party singing and then someone got up and spoke for about 20 minutes. After he was finished another man introduced the next singer. This repeated two or three times until they brought up the women who helped set up the marriage and thanked them. After that was a prayer and then they cut a cake and fed it to each other. During this time there was a slide show of pictures from the last 5 events. Once the program ended the guests all went to eat and then headed to the stage to have their picture taken with the bride and groom. I am not able to eat at these events because the food is super spicy so my hosts order me food but I have to go through a bunch of people asking me if I've eaten first which is uncomfortable. My friends are good about checking on me which is sweet; I'm just not used to being the center of attention when I leave the house.
I roamed the event hall with some of my friends and took photos of them in their fancy outfits. I didn't anticipate coming here and having 15 new friends overnight but that is where we are and it's great.
